September at Home
Simple meals, small projects, and a six-week declutter challenge together.
Happy September, friends. The days are starting to shorten, the light feels a little different, and I can already sense the shift. It’s not quite fall here, but there’s a slowing that makes me want to prepare my home and my heart.
“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV)
This month, I’m leaning into purpose. Making meals that comfort, creating corners that invite peace, and clearing away what no longer serves.
What’s on the Table This Month
September feels like the month to pull out those hearty recipes — soups, stews, casseroles, and a good pot of chili. Food that stretches for more than a day, food that warms, food that welcomes family and friends. If you’ve been thinking about meal planning again, this is a good time to sketch out a few go-to meals and stock the pantry with basics.
Home Projects
I’ve collected some fall pieces over the years… some thrifted, some homemade, a few passed down. The older I get, the more I see the beauty in making cozy without breaking the bank. A candle here and there… and a little something repurposed. I think every year, I buy a new wreath but this year, I want to try and make my own.
Let’s think of home projects as little gems we add slowly, affordably, and with love.
Quiet Moments
Early mornings or evenings with a journal in my hand — that’s where my clarity comes. Devotionals, scripture writing, or even jotting down the day’s small wins. These are the quiet things that keep me centered when life feels loud.
Word of Encouragement
As the calendar fills and schedules press, remember: you don’t have to do everything all at once.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NKJV)
Take it piece by piece. God honors the small steps of faithfulness in our homes and in our hearts.
Six-Week Fall Declutter Challenge
So many of you said “yes” to this, and I’m excited for us to do it together! Starting Monday, September 8th, here’s our focus for the next six weeks:
Week 1 (Sept 8–12): Kitchen & Dining Room
Week 2 (Sept 15–19): Pantry & Food Storage
Week 3 (Sept 22–26): Bathrooms & Linen Closets
Week 4 (Sept 29–Oct 3): Bedrooms & Clothing Closets
Week 5 (Oct 6–10): Living Areas & Entry
Week 6 (Oct 13–17): Laundry, Storage & Garage Corners
Take each space at your own pace. No strict daily assignments — just a list of areas you can pick from during that week.
Quick, Frugal Decluttering Tips:
Don’t buy new bins — repurpose boxes or bags you already have.
Old t-shirts make perfect cleaning cloths.
Use three containers: Keep, Donate, Trash.
Limit your time — twenty minutes is enough to see progress.
Celebrate small wins — one bag out is success.
Reflection Questions
Each week, take a few minutes to pause and reflect. Write down your answers to keep track of the shifts happening inside as you work on the outside.
Week 1: What meal brings me the most comfort, and how can I make it this month?
Week 2: What’s one thing I’m holding onto in my home that I no longer need?
Week 3: Where do I feel the most peace in my home right now?
Week 4: What area of my home feels the heaviest, and why?
Week 5: What small act of care can I give myself this week?
Last day of the month: How has my heart changed through this challenge?
Friends, let’s walk into September with intention. Not rushing. Not hustling. Just preparing our homes, our hearts, and our families for the season ahead.
